昨日のところに東がさっきつけたコメントだが、「不定冠詞は種類またはクラスを表す単数形にはつけない」、ということで良いのか？ "A bird flys."とか。

東が例で引いてくれたページで言えば、 "A carrot is a vegetable"も良いけど、"The whale shark is the largest fish in the world." (The whale sharkの方)も良い、というあたりがかなり微妙である。

　他のページにあった"The greatest invention in 20th century is the computer."の"the computer"の方のtheが私にとっては悩ましい例かな。"The computer in my room is old."の"the computer"は、"I have a computer in my bag. This is the computer."の"the computer"と同じで、「一意に決まる特定のコンピュータ」ということで良いが、最初のやつは特定のコンピュータじゃないもんね。
